11. I had a headache and felt sick after class – why?

It is quite normal to feel nauseous or dizzy, or even have a headache during or after class. Internal organs such as the pancreas, liver, kidneys and even the lungs act as a filtration system for the toxins we ingest daily through processed foods, caffeinated drinks, polluted air and overindulgent lifestyles. Through Bikram Yoga we create a ‘wringing out’ or ‘tourniquet effect’ through our organs and glands that releases and dissolves waste products such as lactic acid and carbon dioxide. As we purify our bodies, it is common to experience a slight ‘hangover’. Make sure you are hydrated by drinking plain water and that you breathe normally during class. Remember, you are welcome to sit down whenever you need to and that this feeling will quickly pass.
