Sweating is good for us! It proves we have a healthy process of elimination and is the body’s natural way of fighting infection. It can take the body a while to ‘learn’ how to sweat. In the West we have grown to perceive perspiration as something negative and can sometimes shut down our ability to ‘let go’ through use of strong antiperspirants and dehydration. Whilst it is true you may lose some minerals (as you would with ANY function of elimination!) it takes longer than 20 minutes to detoxify; the more flexible the musculoskeletal system becomes throughout many hours on the mat, the deeper we can create ‘tourniquet effect’ through the internal organs, in turn releasing toxins via the bloodstream and eventually through the pores of the skin. It is important to maintain proper nutrition and we recommend taking Spirulina or Emergen-C mineral supplements as needed.
